When you're used to having the tools you need, it's easy to expect things to just work. And unless you specialize in thinking about how systems come together or study how they were made, it may be hard to identify all the things that have to get done between "we have a BIBFRAME standard" and "we can make BIBFRAME records" or "we can make BIBFRAME records" and "we can use BIBFRAME with the same degree of friction as we use MARC now." This makes it tricky to attend a presentation where someone is ...

To explain the utility of semantic search and linked data, Jeff Penka, director of channel and product development for information management solutions provider Zepheira, uses a simple exercise. Type “Chevy Chase” into Google’s search box, and in addition to a list of links, a panel appears on the right of the screen, displaying photos of the actor, a short bio, date of birth, height, full name, spouses and children, and a short list of movies and TV shows in which he has starred. Continue typing the letters “ma” into the search box, and the panel instantly changes, showing images, maps, current weather, and other basic information regarding the town of Chevy Chase, MD.
This white paper compares and contrasts the compatible linked data initiatives at both institutions. It is an executive summary of a more detailed technical analysis that will be released later this year. #ldmodels
In an attempt to make this blog accessible to all types of Libraryland people, I rarely dive deep in the minutiae of cataloging. But I have ...
Includes a lot about why music cataloging is a PITA. Also points out that the identifier situation in cataloging generally and music cataloging specifically is pretty dire.
